Control chart

The control chart shows the time taken to complete tasks during a specific period. With this chart you can see at a glance the deviations in the team's work and move on to solving problems.

How to read and understand the Control chart

  • The entire chart space shows the time period you have selected.

  • The Y-axis shows the days.

  • The dots on the graph are cards. Cards of different types are marked in different colours. The higher the dot on the graph, the more days it took to complete the task.

  • If you hover your cursor over a point, you will see the name of the card and the time it took to complete the task, up to the minute. If you click on the point, you will go to the card itself.

  • The red line on the chart is the SLA (Service Level Agreement) - your internal agreement with your customers on how many days you are committed to completing most tasks. It is up to you to set it on the graph. Usually the SLA is based on how quickly tasks have been completed in the past on average.

If any points on the graph are significantly higher than the others - these are the first to be looked at. These tasks have taken longer than others to complete and require detailed hindsight.

The points below the line you have set are the cards for which expectations have been met.

The percentage written on the red SLA line is the percentage of cards that you have managed to complete in the period you've set without violating the expectations.

Let us show you an example:

In the graph below we can see that two of the completed tasks clearly have an outlier - they are well above the red line and also above the other tasks.

We can also see that 77.78% of all tasks completed in this period are completed in less than 5 days.

Shall we do it again? Let's look at another control chart

Here we already see different types of tasks done during the period (different colored dots)

10 tasks deviate from the baseline pace.

89.74% of the tasks are completed in less than 10 days.

How to adjust the display of data on the graph

To get the information you want from the graph, apply the filters on the right-hand side of the screen:

Period - the time period, the tasks completed for which will be shown.

Path beginning - you select the board and the column that is the commitment point. If more than one entry column is selected, the first time it hits one of them will be counted.

Path ending - this is usually a column with the type "Done", hitting it will count the cards as completed. If more than one entry column is selected, the time of the last hit in any of them will be counted.

SLA - here you set the number of days you consider optimal for the task commitments.

Sizes - here you select, whether you want the size of the card to be taken into account when reflecting cards on the chart.

Card types and Tags - you can only show cards with certain types and/or tags on the chart.
